Merger of The Garfitt Law Partnership LLP with Harrowells Solicitors
We are pleased to announce that The Garfitt Law Partnership LLP will be merging with Harrowells Solicitors, with effect from 1st May 2025. We will both will be joining Harrowells and we will continue to look after our clients’ affairs as we are doing now. We are currently contacting our clients and other key professionals to explain the practical arrangements.

We have known the team at Harrowells over many years and they have a similar focus on providing high quality legal advice, very much tailored to the individual. David also practised some years ago at Powell and Young in Pocklington, which subsequently merged with Harrowells in 2013; so there is another connection.

Harrowells has over 120 staff based in York and in a number of market towns across North and East Yorkshire. Our merger means we can offer a wider range of legal advisory services, in addition to those we already provide to our clients. We will also be able to draw on the wider resources of a larger practice and so ensure holiday cover and additional support when required.

Those clients who valued the convenience of meeting us in Harrogate and Nidderdale will still be able to do so after our merger. You can find out more about Harrowells Solicitors by visiting their website at www.harrowells.co.uk

You can contact us via our usual telephone numbers and email addresses and can continue to do so for a period of time after the merger.

David Garfitt

David was born in Norfolk and grew up in Lincolnshire moving to Yorkshire in 1990. David qualified as a Solicitor in 1991 and has always practised in firms with a strong private client and agricultural client base, having been a partner at Powell & Young (now Harrowells), Pocklington and Langleys Solicitors LLP, York.

He is regarded as a leader in his field, technically very able and with specialist expertise in private client and agricultural law. David also has a wealth of experience and knowledge of other areas of legal work which overlap private client work, for example, residential and agricultural property, commercial and family work, which enables him to provide all-round sound, commercial and pragmatic advice.

David has been a member of The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) since 2007.
Under Sheriff of North Yorkshire

David was appointed the Under Sheriff of North Yorkshire in 2013 and has been re-appointed to that position every year since. He performs a supporting role for the High Sheriff of the County and, amongst his other duties, has responsibility for organising the North Eastern Circuit’s Annual Legal Service at York Minster.
